GENERAL INFO:

Age: Nobody really knows...

Sex: Varies, but male by default.

Species: Half-human, half-fey, all bastard.

Marital Status: Single, baby! Any takers...?

Orientation: Can change sex and shape at will and has polysexual tastes, so... whatever you want, sugar. Straight male, gay male, straight female, lesbian, hermaphroditic freak-show, tentacle monster and/or schoolgirl, whateeeeever floats your boat.

Personality: Easy-going psychopath. Usually fairly calm and suave, but can turn downright nasty when thwarted or desperate. His libido is out-of-control, and he'll flirt with practically anyone of any gender (and do more than flirt, if he can manage it. Oh, yeah.) Tends to use endearments to everyone, regardless of sex ("sweetheart", "sugar", "babydoll", etc.) Can come across as rather annoyingly flaming. Loves his job a little too much, and when he's not killing people, loves to party, get drunk out of his mind, and hook up with whoever's available. He often takes female form when he goes out drinking, in the hope of getting free booze and sex (and he usually needs free booze, because he's totally incapable of hanging onto money.) He has absolutely no moral sense and no inhibitions whatever, and thinks nothing of killing dozens of people or frolicking naked in public. Entirely pragmatic, he does whatever is of most advantage to himself. He'll do any heinous deed if it means personal gain; but he's also been known to (more or less) save people if there's some personal advantage in doing so. Manipulative and sadistic, he enjoys teasing and tormenting people, but does so almost unconsciously, without real malice; not unlike a cat. In fact, "feline" pretty much sums him up.

Background: Thug, crook, murderer and assassin-for-hire. Normally works with a small gang, but occasionally takes on freelance gigs. Will do any dirty deed for the right price. Has been in the killing game for most of his life, and has an alarmingly long resume of victims.

What is he doing in Elarthe...? let's just say that he stumbled through the portal one night while drunk out of his skull, and, finding himself stranded in unfamiliar territory without cash (again), is more than happy to pick up any little killing-and-fighting jobs that come along. So the Heroes Hideout is a perfect hangout for him at present...

Incidentally, he's from the same realm as Queen Gwenevere. Which means he's more or less one of her subjects. He'll recognize her if he sees her, which could lead to considerable confusion as to which realm he's in. If the Queen is here, isn't this her realm? If it isn't, why is she here...? Best not to think about it.

Special Abilities: Excellent swordsman, highly capable with most blade weapons; also, he has powerful shapeshifting abilities thanks to his half-fey parentage. He can change his form at will into pretty much anything that can be made from biological substances (animal only - he can't do plants, inanimate objects, or mineral, metal, or man-made substances.) This could involve changing into another animal entirely, or changing parts of himself into something more convenient (anything from turning into a centaur to sharpening his teeth.) He can't transform his clothes or sword, so he needs to strip if he's changing into something non-humanoid; he wears easily removed clothing for this purpose, and goes barefoot for the same reason. The six-foot-long hair becomes quite useful when he's running around with no clothes on, believe me... ;P

Weapons: Sword, and anything he can cook up in the way of shapeshifting. This includes the abilities of pretty much any animal life-form imaginable, for varying lengths of time (within plausible limits - if he takes a dragon form, that does NOT mean he'll be able to breathe fire, and if he takes a unicorn shape, he's NOT going to go all magical all of a sudden. Sorry, kids.)

Fighting Style: Whatever works. Generally very fast, vicious, and efficient. When on the job, will try anything to get his victim. Relentless, remorseless, and just plain evil. Prefers an up-close and personal style of fighting, and if he has a chance to toy with his victim beforehand, he will. Otherwise, he'll dispatch them swiftly. Favors decapitation, as this usually guarantees the victim will be good and dead. He also has a particular liking for the combination of sword in one hand and huge freaky claws on the other.

Strengths: Highly skilled with the sword, and with blade weapons generally. Able to shapeshift quickly into a vast range of forms. Though not unusually strong, he can change to forms that are stronger by nature (i.e., bears or the like.) Fast, experienced, and unscrupulous.

Weaknesses: Erratic control of shapeshifting abilities (see details below.) Also, because he can't transform his clothes or sword, he'll need to strip in order to change into a non-humanoid shape, which requires a few seconds; he'll also want to stash his sword and clothes somewhere he can retrieve them later - they were expensive and custom-made, and he doesn't like to lose them.

Other weaknesses.... No real defense against magic. Not a lot of good defenses against firearms, short of turning into something small, fast, and hard-to-hit. Absolutely terrible with firearms or projectile weapons himself, as he has no interest in long-range fighting and therefore can't be bothered to learn how to use range weapons. Likes to toy with (and flirt with) his victims if he thinks he has them under control, which can sometimes give victims a chance to escape. Apparently can't keep his mouth shut and tends to say things that will make any bad situation even worse.

Shapeshifting Basics:
Thanks to his fey parentage, Erroneous can change into pretty much any animal-based form imaginable, but, because he's only half-fey, he has only partial control over his shapeshifting abilities. He has a tendency to revert to his default humanoid form in whole or part without warning. This can cause a few difficulties... if he reverts while flying, for instance, he's in for a nasty fall. If he reverts while underwater, he risks being drowned. And so forth. After reverting, he'll usually have to wait a bit before re-taking the shape he reverted from (though he may be able to take a different form, if he hasn't worn himself out.) If he does too much drastic shape-shifting over a short period, he'll be exhausted and will need a break.

The likelihood of reverting varies depending on what form he takes - the further a form is from his default humanoid shape, the sooner he's likely to revert. Forms that are significantly bigger or smaller than his default form will revert sooner than forms of a similar size. Partial transformations tend to be much more stable than full transformations. Forms that he's had a chance to practice with can be taken more quickly and easily than unfamiliar forms, but aren't guaranteed to be any more stable. Also, he'll revert if he loses consciousness, falls asleep, or dies.

Some rough guidelines on shape stability:

  • Adding claws, teeth, horns, or similar small additions to his default form: quite stable, can do this for hours on end...

  • Changing sex: very little change from default, so also quite stable - can do this all night if necessary...

  • Changing to another mammal form: comparatively stable, but unpredictable... could go for a few hours, if lucky. Less, if unlucky.

  • Changing to avian or reptilian form: less stable than mammal, but still might be able to keep it up for an hour - if he's lucky. Highly variable. Could be a couple of hours at best, a few minutes at worst.

  • Changing to fish form: less stable than avian or reptile, but more stable than invertebrate.

  • Changing to invertebrate form: highly unstable - likely to revert in a few minutes.

Damage: If he's wounded or damaged in any form, the damage will carry over to other forms in varying degrees. If he changes to a form with equivalent parts, the damage is carried over to the equivalent areas (so if his arm is injured and he changes to something with four limbs where his arm becomes a foreleg, his foreleg would be injured.) But if he changes into something drastically different, the damage carry-over can be temporarily reduced (for as long as he's in the new form, at least.) So, if he's damaged in the arm, and changes into, say, a snake, there isn't a one-to-one relationship with his original form so the injury might not carry over as much.

Impersonation: He technically could impersonate someone, but to do it really effectively he'd need to practice first, preferably with a mirror and some good reference of the person handy...

Venom: He can do venomous creatures, but with considerable risk. If he switches from a venomous state to his default state too soon or too fast, he ends up with venom in a non-venomous body, which can result in anything from wooziness to instant death. Typical results:

Talking in Other Animal Forms:(Almost forgot about this...) Usually if he's in a shape that's not built for human speech, he can't talk. Or, he could theoretically, but it would require so many fiddly customized modifications to mouth, throat, etc. that he usually doesn't bother and just switches his head and vocal cords back to default if he needs to say something. Example: [link]

Why existing animal shapes anyway? Oh, he can do completely invented shapes, too - but it's generally easier to go with something that's already been "designed", so to speak. That way he knows it already works, and doesn't have to think through all the technical details.
