So apparently I update this journal once a year. -_-
ANYWAY. I just realized I’ve been sort of basically absent from DA for… a month? Two months?? There was a lot of real life stuff going on, and it got awfully distracting for a while and I just kind of… forgot to check in.
So yes, stuff has been happening! Some annoying stuff! But mostly good stuff! Among the annoying things was of course my old computer going kablooie… Two months later and I’m still hunting up old files, reinstalling and reconfiguring applications, trying to rebuild my old bookmarks, and fun stuff like that. So, yay.
Among the good things has been a flurry of animation jobs, (fun, but they tend to have very short deadlines, so it’s kind of stressful and I keep having to drop all my side projects to meet animation deadlines.) Also among the good-but-stressful things is the fact that I snagged a table for IlluXCon this year! THIS IS MY FIRST CON. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M DOING. AND OH MY GOD YOU SHOULD SEE THE LEVEL OF ARTISTS AT THIS THING WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO. PANIC COMMENCES NOW. So yeah, a lot of my free time should really go into preparing for this thing, because I am nowhere near ready and have no clue.
Meanwhile I’ve been desperately trying to build up a buffer for the Wayward Queen webcomic, because it’s getting harder and harder to keep up with timely updates - I need a buffer for sanity’s sake! So far it’s, um, not going so well (I’m still basically zero pages ahead of myself)… But I’ll build up a buffer or bust, dammit!
I… guess I should reply to things. I can’t believe how long I’ve ignored my message center. This is so embarrassing.
Just FYI, I seem to be somewhat more active on Tumblr these days, if you’re into Tumbling (I’m QueenGwenevere on Tumblr.) It’s just so much easier to slap stuff up on Tumblr than on DA (I swear DA just keeps making things more complicated, so I always put off posting.) Though I should really post some of that stuff here, too.
DERP. Derpity derp-derp. Looks like I vanished from DA for a bit, there… Things got reeeeeally hectic in December. Mostly work deadlines ("We want it before Christmas!") and then the usual running around seeing family for the holidays, of course. I'm having trouble being productive on anything right now because of Family Getting in the Way and wandering around looking over my shoulder every ten minutes to say "Watcha doin'?" and sticking their noses right in my screen to get a closer look… (I've already had to hide this journal several times as I'm typing, haha.)
There's a whole bunch of stuff I meant to post - I shall post it! And oh man, look at that big stack of comments I forgot to reply to. I shall reply to stuff! (I didn't mean to let them sit for that long, agh. There were massive distractions - Sorry!) And there has been some nifty gift art, I should put together a feature journal to show it off...
Anyway, I think things go back to comparatively normal in January, so expect more life around here!
Which was totally awesome.
We had the top knobs from the Animation, Story, and Art departments at Pixar giving us a giant info dump for three full days - Andrew Gordon, Matthew Luhn, and Ricky Nierva. And while they talked they showed examples and clips and a few random classic cartoons on a big movie screen (they had the class in a movie theater, very appropriate.) And they threw random in-class assignments at us just to keep us on our toes, that was fun.
(Oh, and I totally wanna see Monsters University now, they were showing us all kinds of MU process stuff in class, and damn it looks amazing…)
(I also want to re-watch Up now.) (And Ratatouille, I can't believe I've never watched that one.)
